Hi everybody, my Yanmar SB8 just dies last week. I am working on trying to get the parts to rebuild it. With that comes many questions. This is my first time dealing with inboard motors and i have no idea how to get started, what safety precations i need to take, procedures and especially how to remove this engine with out sinking my boat.

Also, if anybody know where to get Yanmer parts at a decend price please let me know and if anybody might have an SB8 engine for sale let me know to, i need to get an engine so i don't miss out this season.

Thanks!

Xavier: Hang an O/B motor on the ass end and go sailing. Fix it or replace it (better idea) after the season ends.

old engine

There are a few old engines out there that may be worth looking at. Here is a 10hp Lister http://baltimore.craigslist.org/boa/1202431778.html
craigslist and the internet are good sources for finding engines and parts. As far as getting the an engine out and back in the boat many sailors use the boom supported by the main halyard as a hoisting bar to lift the engine. These engines are not all that heavy. Look in the archives of this site for information.

You might look on the following sites for used/rebuilt engines.

I found a used Yanmar on the Hunter forum and installed it this spring. So far, so good. It was a lot of work but very rewarding when finished. It is definitely a over the winter project. I pulled my old engine out in the fall and worked on the newer engine over the winter and then put it in in the spring.

Good luck...
