I am about to purchase a 1995 Macgregor 26x, the boat will only be used on the lake and has a 10HP MARINER out board .What sort of preformance will this have on a boat of this sze ,will it hold its own against a slight wind to go on to a mooring.Also what would the steering response be like and any tips on manovering would be handy as i am new to sailing but. I went for this boat because i was told it is easy to sail for a first time sailor is this correct. Where can i get spares from in the UK is there a Macgregor dealer here.

the motor should be more than enough to push your boat, there are mac dealers in england, check the ads in practical boat owner or yachting monthly. most all hardware on the boat is made by major makers like schaefer, harken etc, only the fiberglass hull parts of a mac are 'special'..good luck with your mac, they are great learner boats.

Store on the trailer or berth?

Congratulations. Your X will probably sail better than the rest of ours with the reduced weight on the transom (as opposed to a 50 hp).My only question would be if the 10 hp can propel the boat fast enought to drain the water ballast out the stern valve. It can be a bit harder to get it onto the trailer with full ballast. Otherwise, should be fine and use much less fuel.Cheers,Jim

10 HP is ideal for mooring & sailing...

If youre not interested in speed, you wont have any problems. I had a Mac26S previously with an 8 HP (worked great). We actually motored a lot with the 8 HP. My MacX with a 50 HP works well when you want speed on the water. But when mooring, a smaller engine will creep easier for smoother docking.
