I have a Volvo model 2003 (28 hp). Anybody have an opinion on what viscosity of engine oil is best to use?

I am with Bill. Yanmar recommended 30Wt for their GM engines for many years. Then they decided (assume that they did extensive testing) that 15-40 was okay.

Your mfg. should be your guide. One thing I would stay away from is using a synthetic on an older engine. They can cause problems (leaks).

Personally I have stuck with the Shell Rotella or Chevron Delo Cx oils and they have always worked fine. I prefer the Chevron product only because I find it easier to find but I find that the Shell product is highly recommended.

Any Auto store (Advance Auto) will have Shell Rotella in stock. I use Rotella 15/40 in my MB 300-D and Sailboat

Bria:

Out west you don't find the Shell products where you might fuel up on the water. Chevron products are highly marketed out here.
