Engine Noise - easily reduced by Insulation

A good idea is to add foil backed, self adhesive engine insulation to both the fore and aft engine covers. We added to our 2001 320 and it reduced the noise dramatically so we can now have a conversation and listen to music while motoring. $100. and 1 hour labor is well worth the effort. Once again, this is another (in a long list of items)that Catalina should make standard! I wonder if anyone from Catalina reads these forums. It would be great for their R&D dept.

Elaborate, Please

What type of boat? What type & thickness of soundproofing material? Any installation problems encountered? Did you get all the surfaces, or just a few? I looked into doing it on my C320, but after measuring the engine compartment clearances/spaces, decided it was too tight. The largest available surface was on the removable cover in the aft cabin over the transmission/prop shaft, and it was mainly multiple concave surfaces. The forward cover under the ladder had the belts too close to install anything. The port side wall had a small surface, but had multiple hoses & components mounted on it, while the starboard side wall had almost no surface area. --RonD
