Engine Maintance

Hi All,
I've been doing some much needed maintance to my engine (MD6b) since
the weather is wet and my first mate (my son) is recovering from an
injured foot. I pulled the injectors, disassembled and cleaned. What a
difference. The engine is much smoother and happier. I have two
questions I'm hoping someone can answer. First, I noticed while
peering in the oil fill hole the top of the engine looked very dry.
There's plenty of oil, the oil pressure alarm goes off when running
and there is no indication of anything wrong. Does the oil pump send
oil to the top of the head or is it lubricated by oil vapor? Second, I
would like to reconnect the rev. counter. Where would I find the
sender on the engine?

Many Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul

The rev counter sender is taken from the camshaft at the rear of the engine. It is a magnetic pick-up with a nut about 1" across (quite big). It counts the teeth on the gear and sends this to the rev counter.

The oil pump is located at the bottom of the engine but should send oil to the top. Never known a MD6A or B to be dry of oil, mabye a blocked oil channel?

Kind Regards

Steve,
Many thanks for the information. I will pull the cam cover and check
for blocked channels. Is there an oil frow diagram available?

Hi Paul

Not that I know off but there is a Workshop Manual available from the VEGA CDROM. Either the UK or USA one. Contact Chuck in the USA or me in the UK. Cost is £15 in the UK for this invaluable CD

Kind Regards
