I just bought a 1985 catalina 30. It has been cared for well and has only 925 hours on the engine. It is a Universal 25. My problem; I can be motoring for 45 minutes and then it seems to have 10 horsepower instead of 25. I notice a distinct loss of power and if I full throttle for 10 seconds I get very little power out of the engine. I have had a mechanic look at it three times but to know avail.I can shut the engine down, wait a minute or so and start the engine right up. I get a few more minutes of light throttle and then hardly any . Perplexing!!!!

I had a similar problem that I could not track down. I would slowly lose power and not regularly so could not pin it down. Finally I found that the shut off cable was not opening all the way when running. ( this is the cable with the handle on it in the cockpit that you pull to shut off the engine) It had been set at about 2/3 open. When the boat would run it slowly closed off the supply of fuel. By just loosening the screw adjustment nut and sliding it up the wire to where the engine received full fuel the problem was solved. I now have a lot more power and no lagging. Might check your system. ??Terry
