engine leaking water

Hello all, I noticed my engine is squirting water from one of the hoses. It looks like something I could replace myself. Can any of you identify this part and tell me where I can go to replace it? Also, this is just water to cool the engine right?

BTW- in the picture, its the white hose...

is it leaking at the hose clamps or is the hose cracked in between the clamps...from what i can tell its a bypass hose for the thermostat...call them and have them explain the purpose of the bypass kit and if it is determined that you dont need it just order the pypass hose frome them and a couple of new clamps and change it out ...you may want to try tightening the hose clamps you have now and see it that stops the leak...

I can't tell from here. I think that I see multiple points of leakage.

Yeah, anywhere you see that green stuff you have a leak. You'll need to at least pull the hose off the fitting, clean it up and reinstall. I don't think that hose is supposed to be white. I've never seen white hose anywhere except in head plumbing.
Double SS hose clamps wherever you can. Any hoses that look worn out need to be changed, in fact I'd change them all and the belts and filters, doesn't look like that motor sees a lot of love.

All of that white makes me think that someone got a hold of a can of white spray paint.

that white hose looks like it is covered with some kind of heat wraping .....sorta like the old asbestos tape from days gone by...

HA. spray paint. nice. Im not much of an engine guy. Trying to learn though. I recently installed an electronic ignition system, which helped a lot.

I'll take of the hose and replace it. Im pretty sure its leaking right before the clamps, Ill check that out tomorrow and take a better picture, maybe even a video.

A little dish soap makes hoses easier to install on hose barbs. K-Y jelly will also work I am told, as will electricians wire pulling lubricant

Looks like it has been leaking for a while. Is the white stuff salt?
It looks like a standard heater hose. You do not need a special hose unless there is a molded curve in part of it. Any auto part store will be able to match it if you bring the hose in with you.

You'll find the right hose at Home Depot. No need to pay extra dollars. Also your atomic 4 needs TLC

Don't fool around

Unless as mentioned it has a curve molded in, regular auto. heater hose will work fine. Replace all the hoses. No sense taking any chances on an item that costs just a very few dollars. Also be careful with hose clamps. Be sure to get stainless clamps, not those that have some kind of cheapo metal in them. Do it right the first time, and you will be worry free for a long time.

you will likely find that the "spring" clamp is a goner, too...find some real stainless (awab or better) and double clamp, I would still do the "white" one whilst there...

Its just heater hose and a stainless clamp and after you change them you can see if there is a harsher issue

There is really no room for a doubble clamp and the narrow ones work best on those hoses and barbs



The valve is to get the correct amount of water flow through the block as the original thermostat cover rusts away and let's to much water bypass the block and go directly to the exaust manifold

I just got back from pepboys and autozone. Neither of them carried the same size hose. I ended up putting the original hose back on and replaced the clamps. The leak has definitely stopped. However, I would still like to change the hose as its in very bad shape.
