My 1980 H37.5C has the original ignition and tach and heat guages, mounted on the forward cockpit bulkhead, just below the hatchway sill. They are old, faded and hard to read. I would like to replace and relocate them. Any suggestions out there?

You'd need to check with the engine manufacturer. The panels/gauges come from Yanmar, or whoever made your engine. Several of mine don't work I checked and the entire panel was several hundred dollars. But you can get one or two at a time.

to replace the panel with a ready made panel is very expensive, but to replace the gauges individually is usually an expensive but affordable option.

i recommend using only marine quality gauges, or they wont last very long.
and unless you use the identical brand and model of gauge, you cant tell what the ohm setting of the gauges are, so you will need to replace the senders also....

VDO and Stewart Warner are two brands of gauges that i highly recommend....

hello all

I too need to attach gauges to my motor.... I have a new Kubota 35 hp diesel engine in my sailboat... right now there are no gauges hooked into the motor... I have only the key, glow plug button, and starter button....

I have been looking at faria gauges... they have a single guage that has the fuel level, water temp, oil pressure, and volts.... has anyone used a guage like this ???... any experience with these gauges??? ...

I have a Edison pedestal steering on my boat and would like to attach the gauges to it, for easy of reading, and for starting the auxiliary....

sincerely

Same as Centerline ..................

....................... has said with VDO and Stewart Warner. Upgraded to guages from idiot lights and replaced one tach over the years using VDO in all installations. You may require new transmitters as the old ones may not be compatible with the new VDO guauges. Use compatible automotive Xmitters and they are usually quite cheap.

Check the internet for the best deals. I have purchased guages on-line from the remotest backwaters known to mankind and never had a trace of a problem. Here's one example of a better known supplier.

a cluster gauge can be used to save space, but finding a good marine quality one is going to be EXPENSIVE.... after purchasing the senders necessary for the install, cluster gauges are typically more expensive than buying a set of individual units, and a lot of the cluster gauge units are not for outside applications.
so a well sealed marine unit will bring a premium price.

as for installing the gauge on the pedestal, you can mount the gauges/key switch/glow button wherever you want on your boat, but you gotta remember that its primarily a sailboat, and not a motor boat....

my thoughts would be to keep the gauges out of the way (and more protected from the weather), yet readable from the helm... save the helm space for the instruments that are needed ALL the time when sailing or motoring, like the GPS, sounder, radar, wind meter, ect... or maybe nothing at all at the helm, but just as you dont need the winch handles, sheets and lines cluttering the cockpit when motoring, you dont need the engine gauges in your way when sailing:D...

hello all

faria has a really nice cluster gauges.... in various sizes... they are made for marine use....

I am looking at a small pod instrument case to install everything into, mount it on the pedestal steering , to keep handy for when I need it....

but I am also looking into a set of instruments from Kubota too....

sincerely

Get an Actisense N2K engine interface module.
Then just hook it up to any nmea 2000 instrument such as the Raymarine i70. Or, if you have a modern chart plotter, it will display on there

Guages

Have you a link or URL for that?

The absolutely best plan

Wire in an Actisense engine monitor, and install a N2 K instrument such as a Raymarine i70. Or display on your plotter.
Only way to go .

Ok,
There are 2 options here: both work well.
You can use either Maretron or Actisense.
I prefer Actisense as they are more versatile.
Basically, the box is an A/D converter, with N2K output.
The setup allows you to calibrate to your sensor type, and voltage parameters.
There are many ways to display the data, once it's in N2K format, but I'm partial to the Raymarine I70 readout, cause it's a really good piece of gear.
On my boat, I have E series plotters, so the engine readouts are right on a plotter page as well.
If you really want to have a great setup, buy the Raymarine ITC-5, and then wire your depth, speed & wind xducers to it.
So, now on 1 I70 guage you will have all your boat instruments, plus engine data. It doesn't get any easier.
Good luck
