I could not find anything in the archive on engine hose replacement. I have a 1988 H28.5. Some of the wired hoses have hairline cracks in the rubber cover. Should I replace them all? If so, any tips your guys care to give me to make the job easier? Thanks for the help. Jim

Hose Replacement

If for some good reason, you need to replace an existing hose you can use PB Blaster to loosen any sealer that may have been used and pry them off with small screw drivers. However, PB Blaster may have an Acetone component that will atttack panit and plastics. If you are going to throw the hose away anyway, just cut it off and cut the remaining portion off the fittings. I still have several of the original hoses on my 1986 28.5, but I have replaced the seawater intake hose and the original shaftlog hose with new, and re-installed the exhaust hose after servicing the exhaust elbow. There is a separate site for 28.5 owners if you're interested in details specific to that model:http://groups.yahoo.com/huntertwentyeightfive

Thanks

Thanks for the tip. I have replaced the raw water intake hose also. One hose that has the hireline cracks run all the way from the front of engine to the stern of the boat. Not sure how do I get access to it.
