I have an 81 O'Day 34 with the Universal Atomic M-25XP. It has a pull cable run from the fuel shutoff through a hole in the side of the port lazerette so it comes out near the engine controls.
I'm guessing this is a modification by a previous owner. Can anyone with a 34/35 tell me how you turn off your engine? If possible I'd like to return it to the factory design, because the pull cable is difficult to operate, gets in the way and is a real ankle buster.

Any thoughts or suggestions welcome. I have the original engine manual, but it doesn't go into anything about how O'Day installed it or the controls.

Through engine control panel

On my O'Day 35 it is routed through the center of the engine control panel. Make sure you give it generous bend radii or it will be real hard to pull. This the original position.

Dunno if you'll be able to get her back to factory spec, my 1981 O'Day 34 is fitted with the Universal 5424. Perhaps your has been re-powered.

None the less, to stop Karma's engine I pull back on the throttle till the engine stops. The throttle has a stop position, which is spring-loaded so that releasing the throttle returns it back to idle.

My Oday 35 (1985) has a Universal 25M which is 21 horse power deisel. The shut off is a pull handle on 1/4" round metal rod located on the engine control panel. Its probably connected to a cable that shuts off air flow to the engine.
