Been here before with this question, and unfortunately no answers, but I'm hoping for better this time around. The engine control on my 25.5 (single lever, cockpit wall, 1GM10) is flopping around and I'd like to tighten it up. I hear there's a nut under the chrome cup that can be tightened. Trouble is I don't know how to get the handle and cup off. Can anyone help or point me in the right direction for info? See related photo. Thanks all.

Not alone

I have had the same problem for a while and have not figured out just how to get the wiggle out. There is a nut of some kind under the "cup" with an indentation in it. I figure that is a set screw of some sort and the mechanism to remove the cap, but have found no way to do so. If someone can provide a hint, please do!

Handle

The handle will simply pull out of the cup. The black knob can be removed by unscrewing. Look into the hole where the handle was after it's removal and you should see what appears to be a nut. I had thought there would be a hex set screw in the center of the nut, but have not been able to locate one. There is also a hole on the bottom of the cup. I intend to take a mirror to examine that orifice next time I get to my boat.

John...

In the hole opposite the handle is an Allen set screw, which I've removed, but that didn't seem to help in getting the cup off. I didn't know the handle pulls out - I'll try that too, soon as the rain stops here. Please keep in touch if you discover anything else, and I will too. Thanks.
