Engine Control Cables

Has anybody tried to connect engine control cables for the forward/reverse and throttle to their outboard? Where have you mounted the control lever? It seems like it would be much more convenient to have the controls higher up and more accessible especially when docking.

Jerry - This question would be better placed in the Smaller Boats Forum. That's where those of us with boat upto the 26.5 hang out. Sorry, I don't have an answer to your questions, but I am interested in hearing what others have to say. Peace Ron Mehringer H26 Hydro-Therapy

Dealer Installed

I had remote controls installed on my H26 when she was new by the dealer. Tohatsu had a remote control kit which included the control lever, cables and a remote starting panel. The panel was installed on the angled section of the starboard seat, and the control lever is installed on the side of the seat about a foot aft of the port for the aft berth. It is more convenient as you can stand up while docking and bump the lever with your foot. It does take up a little bit of room in the aft berth, but not significant. The biggest hassle is the bracket sticks out off the front of the outboard and along with the stiff control cables, makes it difficult to tilt the motor. It also limits how far you can turn the motor for an assist while docking. Mike Pajewski H26 "Loon"
