Back again!
Read the other day an article about having a clean engine, and I thought I should do the same
I have had many people telling me what to do, but I have not asked anyone from this site what to do
What do you recommend?
Please let me have the name of a good engine spray, where to get it and how to do it
Some of you have done this, please let me know what you found worked well
Good to be back again, turned 60 last week, amazing how time flies!

Hello Jorge:

Still got the Jaguar?

To your question:

In the past, for some other purpose, I seem to recall that I might have given you a suggestion of my favorite grease/grime remover -- "Industrial Purple". Available in the janitorial supply section of Home Depot. Buy the full strength in the gallon. It is water soluble, but will dissolve petroleum oil/grease.

I would suggest staring off with a 50/50 mix with H2O. Put in a sprayer. The squeeze type like your normal kitchen sprayer. After letting it sit for a while on the engine, use brushes to help break up the grime on the engine. If results aren't good enough, then try full strength 100% Industrial Purple.

If its on a car engine, I then just blast with a garden hose to rinse. But for a boat engine, maybe instead use a pump-up type garden sprayer filled with water. You will need to pump or sponge out the drippings from the engine pan before it spills over.

Industrial Purple is strong. Do not over-spray or drip onto wood. If so, sponge off with water immediately. Wear gloves and eye protection.

Anyway, my suggestion. And pretty cheap.

Rardi, one more question: do I clean the engine while cold, or do I start it and let it run for a while and then clean up ?

Other than changing oil, I never work on my engine when it's hot. OTOH, read the label on the material. :)

As per Stu, do it cold definitely. Gives more time for the Industrial Purple solution to work. Hot or even warm engine would cause the spray to dry off virtually immediately. Also I think the hot engine will cause heavier vapors from the IP.

Not mentioned in my opening suggestion, you might try this out first on a just a small part of your engine to verify the outcome is to your satisfaction before having to deal with cleaning up all the run-off from a total engine job. I don't know how much grime is on your engine. I've used IP on a couple of car engines that had minor dirt and grime and the results were wonderful. My boat engine was grime and dirt free when I bought it. Still pretty much is. So I haven't actually done Industrial Purple to it except for a few small trouble areas.

I've got CNBC on right now. They just announced coming up will be a piece on a test drive of a current $500k Rolls model. With the trade-in of your current Rolls to reduce the damage to your bank account, I'm sure it would sure look good in your marina parking lot! You might be able to find the video clip on CNBC's website if interested.

I buy vast quantities of a similar concentrated purple industrial degreaser. We use it on floors, botling and labeling machines ang general cleaning around the plant. I have found that 20%, 5 to 1 works better than 50-50. Easier to rinse away. Note it will etch paint. If I was going to clean my engine, which is not likely, I would try to have it just warm to the touch. Certainly not hot. most chemicals work better warm. Also, avoid the vapors from it if you're pregnant.

Thank you Sam
Rardi, this Rolls was advertized around Katrina time for $12,000.00. Months later, it was $8000.00, so I offered $5000, delivered to Houston.
They accepted my offer. Carpets, seats, transmission and recently brakes ( a very complicated system) cost a further $7000.
Still worth every dime: 80K original miles, right hand drive (I'm used to it, lived in South Africa 25 years and that is how they drive. It is a pleasure to drive, and amazing how suddenly people treat you differently. Never understood that, it's still a !@#$% car, for God'sake!

Now I have heard it all! Come to think of it, perhaps all Cherubini Hunter owners should try to drive around in Rollers :D. Like our boats, you have class, Mr Fife!
