Hello there,
I need to replace the choke cable in my H28.5, that runs from the panel in the cockpit to the Yanmar below deck.
Any ideas of the length that I need to buy? I am planning to buy a generic diesel engine cable and not stock.
Anyone has replaced this cable? any recs? dos and don'ts?
Thank you all and happy sailing!!

Reliance on generic specs for the cable length is often dangerous. If you need to replace it, remove the cable FIRST so you can determine definitively what length you need.

We moved our "fuel shut off" cable from the control panel to the cabin interior on our H'31. If you decide to leave it where it is you can just remove the old one and take it to most any marine store that sell Morse/Teleflex (now SeaStar). Most of the boating companies stock a good supply of the different models.

You may want to contact the folks at this website for the part.

Yanmar supplies two sizes for "fuel shut-off" cables. Check out the length of yours and order through an authorized dealer. Trying to find a substitute is just a pain to perhaps save a couple of Dollars.

This issue was extensively discussed in earlier thread for fuel shut of or kill cables. Like Steve, I moved mine off the panel because it stresses it too much, but not to the cabin. I opted for the starboard side almost exactly opposite where the panel is. The run to the engine kill is shorter and straighter. I posted pics showing a stainless cable [not Yanmar] and a standard stainless sink drain for the recessed housing for the cable pull.

All I do is pull the throttle lever all the way back. Is this not a good way of shutting it down ?

Before you pull the old cable, tie a line to it at engine end. The line will help you thread the new cable.
