Engine Blower

I had the wires and breaker but no blower. I used the wire and breaker to install a blower for the generator to help cool it. Not sure what the blower would do for the boat engine since it is a diesel.

I installed a blower in my engine compartment with ducts to specifically provide cooling to my high output alternator. This Balmar unit has a normal run temperature of 240 degrees F. Without cooling it can set off my temperature-sensing automatic fire extinguisher. Don't ask how I know this.

I have a factory installed blower on my H44. The blower is about a 6 inch "muffin" type fan and is located near the transom inside the aft locker. There is a 6 inch dryer type duct running from the engine compartment to the blower. The exhaust is at the fold down transom step. The blower is 100% manual. I don't run it much except while we are motoring on very hot days and to cool the engine compartment when we get back into our slip.

Engine Room Exhaust Fan

Our 1991 P42 has the engine room exhaust fan located beneath the hanging locker port side next to the nav station. The vent register is located on the port side transom step. Never need to run it in our climate. Perhaps necessary if down south with the Genset running to keep the boat cool.

It is not just for heat. It draws out fumes from the engine compartment, and could vent the cabin if you lift the engine hood. Like when you burn the bacon...

Our H356 came with a factory blower for the engine comparment. The intake end of the pipe is high in the engine comparment to draw out hot air. We like to run it while motoring and for a bit afterwards if the weather is warm. An engine releases a lot of heat after it shuts down. We find this keeps the cabin cooler and smelling better. It uses a 3" pipe and regular marine blower exiting through a chrome clam at the transom. The engine draws outside air to burn through a second separate chrome clam and pipe.

If you look on the Hunter Web site they may have the factory SOP for how this was installed on your model. I downloaded all of the SOPs for my H356 and keep them on the laptop and iPad. Very handy reference.

Where does the vented air exit the boat? I am considering putting in a blower on my 1986, H34 but not sure where is the best location.

Our blower exits on the transom through a Perko clamshell vent. You can see two in this picture. One for fresh air to the engine, other exhaust from the blower.
