Hi All,
I have a Beta 28 hp diesel . This the same motor as the M25XPB (but with different add-ons such as the heat exchanger) .Recently did a valve grind and bought a new head gasket to instal. On reassembling the head to the engine block I forgot to bolt on the thermostat housing before torquing down the head. Not possible to bolt on this housing with head attached.
My question is ... Can I reuse the new gasket after taking the head off again without any problems down the track? I'm thinking that since the engine has not been started the gasket will not be bedded in and should be OK. Your thoughts please.
Cheers
Kevin

We've had our skippers report that the head gasket can be reused M25s and M25XPs). Only suggestion I can make for you at this time is to try it an see. Don't know, for you, what the availability of a new gasket is. If you can walk or drive down to your supplier, then you should be OK. If you have to order it and wait for it, not so much.

Good luck.

As long as the engine hasnt run you will be fine, provided it didnt stick and wants to tear coming off. If it comes off clean, your okay. If it leaves anything behind, so much as a smidge, clean it up and get a new gasket. A light film of glue might be one thing, but if the actual gasket material separates anywhere, it cause trouble and isnt worth the risk.
