Engine alignment

82 Hunter 27, Yanmar 1GM.

How do you confirm engine / coupling / shaft alignment ?

Do you take the bolts out of the coupling, separate coupling halves and then move back to touch and confirm surfaces mate evenly ?

I can't think of any other way....

I personally and professionally suggest that you buy a good book, since the How To Do This has been covered in writing so many, many times. You could also Google it. Or I'd bet You Tube can show you how to.

UNLESS you have good reason to suspect its not right I would leave well alone.
However on the one occasion in 18 years of ownership of this yacht that I needed to split the coupling to fit a face type stern gland it involved quite a bit of messing to get it all lined up perfectly again afterwards - and to no nett gain except a packless gland - hence my advice to leave alone unless you know of good reason not to.

But it is comparatively easy to split the coupling and then you are almost bound to find need to make small corrections - life is just like that!
