Engel Freezer Condensation

Bought Engel MR040 freezer few months ago. Used it for 3 weeks in April, no problem, was great. Used it for a week this month during periods of high humidity (had fog) and the outside of the freezer had condensation. Anyone else have the freezer with this problem? I'm wondering if the Engel cover might solve the problem. I've checked the seal and it seems o.k.

Condensation only happens when the surface falls below the dew point. That would mean that the freezer probably needs more insulation as the outside should not get that cold.

You need to increase the insulation of your 'box'. "Air-gel" or Glacier Bay panels (most expensive) are the most efficient; fiberglass batts are the least efficient (... and thats what you probably have).

Hi Bill

I got the Engel last year and it worked fine and have not had your problem so far,can't Mary make a insulated cover and try that.
Just reminding you I have Claiborne guide to eastern Florida if you want to borrow and think some other skipper guide of some sort,will look and check.

Perhaps I'm not getting it. Is the Engel an in cabinet or stand alone not in a cabinet type?
If it is just a fancy ice chest not in a cabinet then a cover would work fine.

It is a "fancy ice chest" Keeps ice cream and ice cubes and frozen meats just fine. Doesn't use as much electricity as our A/B refer. I told Mary not to worry about it as any savings from additional insulation wouldn't be noticeable. Don't think she will listen. Think we will be ordering blanket tomorrow.

I have an Engel MR040 as well. I live aboard and it has been on consistently since I purchased it in June. I get a small amount of condensation inside but nothing outside. It is kept inside a warm boat. One of the best purchases I have made. It is not like the cheaper units but has a great compressor that is very low draw. I use it as a fridge, not as a freezer though.

Problem solved, maybe. Called Engel. There are 2 little bumpers on the inside back of the lid, each corner. One had come off and was in the bottom of the freezer. Engel says those bumpers aid in sealing.
