Nancy and I went to the boat today and pulled our food supplies for the freezing season. We could have stayed out for three more weeks but we found that we were down to just one bottle of wine. All we need to do now is winterize the engine and the plumbing.

I agree, November is our "rain" month. I've sail every month of the year, work and weather permitting. It is just wetter in the winter. You need to use the "weather windows" between the storms (2-4 days of gail force winds and 1-2 days without gail warning) and have good rain gear.

Ross, how careless of you to allow your

provisions of wine to get dangerously low ! I hope that you learned your lesson.

Yes, I had to let them pull her last week too. I don't miss worrying about 35kt winds on the mooring, but bluebird days like this are tough. The one other thing about staying out late is being the last place to roost for our feathered friends. What a mess! During the season I have a whole row of boats on the channel side of mine and most of the birds sit (and s*it) out there.
Hmmmm "to FL to sail on other people's boats" ... Sounds like nice work!

And what a beautiful day to end the season. Warm, sunny, and a nice little breeze as I winterized the engine and water systems, and dropped and folded my sails. Yet I have no complaints as this was a very nice sailing season with very few windless days and only a few stormy ones. Time to restock the wine rack, think about spring maintenance, and plot the places to sail to next year....

Lots to be thankful for.

Endless season, just more precautions...

Blew the water out of the potable system. Bottled water... and stout... for the rest of the season.

Put glycol in the head and inlet lines. We flush with very weak AF through the winter.

Cover to keep the snow out of the dingy. But it comes off in minutes.

Took the boots to the boat, to get out of the dingy a the beach.

The engines are outboards and lift.

The propane cabin heater is working well. First use of the year, under way. My wife liked it - too hot in the cabin for me.

Planning a Christmas cruise.

One last hurrah (hopefully not)

I'm leaving the old girl in the water this winter and will pull in spring for new bottom paint and other maintenance. I went down today to check on things and take some measurements for a new project, decided to go out even though there didn't appear to be much wind. Motored for a few minutes out into Middle River put the sails up and was happy tacking back and forth very slowly. Saw at least eight other sailboats out. The closer I got to the bay the more wind there was to be had. Ended up cruising at hull speed in a lot of chop and 20+ degrees of heel. I ended up having to drop the main sail due to the wind speed  What a way to hopefully not end the season :D

Makes me feel good reading all these winter preps. Used to do that 50 years ago. Now, I have just ordered a Bimini as I can't take our current temperatures of around 30 degrees C any more. Enjoy your Glo-wine - I shall enjoy a cold beer.
