End grain balsa

I met a surveyor who claims that Irwin decks are fabricated with an end grain balsa core. He claims that the balsa gets wet and rots causing a major hurt in the process. I can find no evidense of this problem and I can't find any balsa core in my 87 MkIII. Anyone have an opinion or experience?

I have done lots of research on the Irwin brand and don't think the surevyor is correct. Based on the year I think most irwins used Marine plywood cores not Balsa. You may want to look up your model on the Irwinyachts.com http://www.irwinyachts.com/ and look up yourt model. Maybe some of the later more race oriented models had Balsa but the full keel versions have plywood.
