well i made it to the marquesas. 34 days from panama/ 4200 miles. learned a lot, about myself and the boat. its a great little rig for single handing. the next smallest things i've come across is a cape dory 28'. people look at me like I am retarded when they see the size of the boat, but they have almost all heard of the vega and respect its reputation as a safe boat. the trip was very interesting, and the Marquesas are everything anyone could imagine they would be. beautiful! great people. Paradise. will be here for another few and then on to tahiti and bora bora. Ive gotta haul ass because I am not a wealthy man by any means, so i should be in Cape town for Christmas. will keep you all posted as I go along.

If you ever get the chance, do this trip!

That's good time. It took me 24 days from Mazatlan to Nuka Hiva when I did
the trip (on a 40 footer) -- of course that isn't as far actually Panama is
a long ways from the islands. Don't pass up the Tuomotos on your way to
Tahiti. They are very interesting. I traded a black pearl farmer my second
diving regulator for a hand full of black pearls.

If you're not wealthy you'll be in for a shock in Tahiti. Tres Cher!!!!
Actually next time I go I'll anchor across the water in Moorea and take the
ferry to Papeete and back. I know one thing, I won't tie up to the quay
every again as it is a good way to sustain damage to the boat. Anchoring off
the church (building with the green roof is much better).

I envy you as I'd like nothing better than to be out there right now,

Chris

Well done!

Let me add to the chorus - More details please.

We are stalled in Seattle at the moment, had to have the engine rebuilt, but we will be heading south at the end of the summer. We still want to cruise Alaska so we will probably winter in Hawaii then trudge back up to Sitka next year. THEN down to FP. four years later than we originally planned.

Any details you can share will be beneficial to all of us. I hope we can publish an account of your adventures on the web site along with Tarka the Otter and Lorna Doone's voyages.

spent several days just surfing along. hit 12.7kntsat one point. I had two conseccutive days where I averagedright at 160NM/day strong current pushing maybe 2 + knts, wind was maybe 20 knts + from the galapagos onward. I had a nice long run. No rain Motored through the ITCZ for 4 days N of the galapagos. it started at 5 deg N and ended at the equator. Strange thing is that I had a reef in my main for several days, just too damned lazy to shake it out in the morning, and i always put one in at night, Only once or twice did i feel that the boat was over powered. never heeled more than maybe 20 deg for a few moments a a time. I think my time was good. Nice boat Blew by a WestSNAIL 32 that did the same run took them right at 40 days. I like this little boat

I hang my head in shame ... looking at Pacific Seacraft Orion 27's on Yachtworld.com, when I already have the perfect boat!!!

Kenneth, great to hear your reports, please keep them coming whenever you have email access.

I envy you! Judy did Costa Rico to the Marquesa
back in the early 80s. Took her 47 days. She says it was the longest 47 days she ever spent. Might have been because her Captain was related to Bligh. Walt To: AlbinVega@yahoogroups.com
