Emergency tiller

HI, I have a 272LE which uses a very similar if not identical tiller. I have had numerous requests for information on the emergency tiller as I have the one that came with the boat originally, so I posted pictures and a description of its construction on my web page for you to look at to see what it looks like. If you would like any other pictures or dimensions for it just drop me an e-mail and I’ll get them to you. Fair Winds Gerry

oday 28 Emergency Tiller

HI.TOM, Ihave 28 1985 I have aluminum factory item emergency tiller. when I got my boat I tried out it to see when ever I would have to used it and I discovered I would have to remove the wheel as I recall it was off center but it work. As you talk to Rudy he would give you the right answer because he knows. I hoped this is a help to you. I look at this site quite often if I could help you with any questions just ask Frederick Pierce

Thanks for your reply I think you are right about the wheel removal. I guess I didn't think that would be necessary. That is the only possible way it will work thanks again TOM

thanks Gerry

Gerry I think my tiller situation is completely different from yours as mine is inserted directly into a receiver in the seat of the cockpit. A 2 inch cylindrical hole with a pin welded across it to accept the tiller which also has to be 2" IN DIAMETER WITH A SLOT IN IT TO HOOK UP BUT THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY ANYWAY ALWAYS LOOKING FOR NEW INFO . 322 emergency tiller

I tried a dry run with the emergency tiller on my new 1987 322 and notice tiller is too long for the cockpit configuration, it hits the pedestal (with the wheel removed). Has anyone had this problem and if so did you shorten the tiller?
