Mine is a 1977 H-30 deep draft with pedestal steering. Can anyone tell me why I don't have a fitting anywhere for an ememrgency tiller? Can this be remedied?

No kidding!

My '79 has an access hatch in the seat directly over the rudder. I sit on the thing every time I'm at the helm. I would think yours is in the same place. I assume you know that there is a photo forum about a guy fixing an emergency tiller for a H30C.

Look for the round plastic cover below the seat and remove it. The pins are lined up to take the emergency tiller. It isn't graceful and may have to be installed in reverse so as to actually turn, but it's a lifesaver to be sure.

Strange But True

It just ain't there! But thanks anyway for the reference to the photo forum, which I discovered for the first time. What a wealth of information. I guess what I'll do is crawl behind the seat locker and see if the proper fittings are there underneath the seat, and if they are, then I can make an access where it should be. The shaft shouldn't be too hard to fabricate.
