I am looking for an emergency tiller for a 1981 Hunter 27 with wheel steering. Anyone know if there is an emergency tiller available commercially that will fit or has anyone adapted something that worked?
If you have the Edson cable steering system, it is probably the same thing as we have on our 33.5. It looks like a small piece of pipe welded to a larger, smaller diam pipe. What I would recommend, if its Edson, is to call West Marine, ask them for the Edson customer service number, call Edson and ask them if they sell the replacement. I have dealt with them on other parts and had good luck.Happy sailing
this web address(http://people.ne.mediaone.net/tlyons/tdl/hunter/pg23.JPG). It looks pretty simple in the line drawing, probably like mine. Short piece of tubing with notches and then a handle welded to the top. Handle length is dictated by the distance between the rudder post and helm I suppose.
Tony,I would be interested in a machine shop quote on what it would cost to copy your emergency tiller.Thanks. will look forward to hearing from you.Bob Blantonrblanton@tenet.edu.
