I'm going to bump this up out of a thread directed at Beckson port owners because there are other plastic ports out there and this project has turned out so well.

Even if you don't carry a full set of storm covers, you might want a means to put a plywood or plastic emergency closure on a broken port without having to have a strongback on the inside. This was quick and easy.

Check the same link in a week or two to see the storm covers.

Pretty sweet Roger! What is your game plan for the covers?

Lots of small opening ports (as on your boat) was on my wish list, but had to take a back seat to a tee shaped cockpit. Unfortunately, my ports don't lend themselves to this type of protection.

Plan A was to cut up the stock of Acrylic I salvaged from the Linen & Things liquidation into spacer rings and covers. That plan died when I found out what a bitch it is to work with the stuff with the tools I have on hand.

Plan B is to buy a set of trim rings from Beckson to use as the spacers and make covers out of the Acrylic. I might use Lexan for the larger ports. Unfortunately, this requires cutting down the spigots which stick out beyond the 3/16" thickness of the trim rings. It's not a job I really want to take on.

Plan C: I'm going Wednesday to talk to a company that does plastic fabrication for the marine industry to see if they can make 5/16" spacer rings of a soft plastic and Lexan covers for a price I can afford.

Stay tuned.

Definitely Plan C!

I can get trim rings AND lexan covers CNC cut to my exact specifications for less than the cost of buying a set of trim rings from Beckson. They will arrive all ready for me to just drill the holes for the bolts.

This place is a great resource. If anyone needs something similar, let me know.
