I still have the original aluminum holidng tank. The location is great since next to the head ( under the shower seat) with 2-3 ft hose run from head to tank. But the orignal set up out of the tank, was a hose run under the sole to the other side of the boat, then three hoses mounted in the hanging locker ( vented loop and deck discharge) with the thru hull discharge across the boat from the tank and head.

Last year I moved the deck discharge so on same side of boat as the head and tank. This year I abandoned the old port side thru hull, and pulled the vented loop out of the hanging locker. Pulled ou thte old manual Whale gusher pump and installed new thru hull, starboard side, macerator, shut off valve at the tank discharge, and ran the vented loop and deck discharge up behind the shower. So ALL the hose is starboard and contained in one locker.

I do need to anchor the marcerator motor and get some closed cell foam.

Should be a couple of pics attached ( hey it worked )

Scott, nice work. . .

but I am amazed that you still have a solid aluminum tank under the shower seat. You might have the last one. My own had been cut out by cutting a hole from the v-berth locker. Then a bladder was placed in the center locker. Somewhere here on HOW is the documented project where I replaced that with a Ronco but still in the center locker.

It was curious that later models put all that hardware over on port. My '79 had everything where you now have yours. It was always a Great Lakes boat so all of that stuff was removed. A capped thru-hull and the bolts for the whale pump are all that remain.

Peggie and Ed

Peggie, closed foam because I don't want a chance of "anything" getting absorbed. Or what else should I use to dampen noise/vibration from the pump?

Ed, I was on a '79 and it had the same set up with all the hoses running to port side deck and thru hull discharge. I guess that was the only place to easely run the hoses up ( in the hanging locker). It was a real bear working hoses up behind the shower, though there was already an access plate in the shower above the faucet.

I wouldn't dampen the macerator pump noise

It's not as if the macerator is toilet that can jar everyone out of a sound sleep if it's flushed at night...the only time it'll be running is for the 2-3 minutes it takes to dump the tank...the noise will alert you to turn it off before the impeller fries if you get distracted while it is running.

Peggie, as usual, you are correct. Damn.

great post, pretty funny,

If that tank hasnt gone its going to go. so then what. before you go mounting permanat stuff it that locker i would think about how your going to get the tank out. I cut the aft wall out of that same locker on my 1985 37c and pulled the tank out in small pieces. If you go that route call me. ill give ya some tips. Its not if the tank goes its when cause it will.

Ed's right!

A 20 year old metal tank has been living on borrowed time for years! You've already done the hard work...replace the tank with a new good quality Ronco plastic tank. Ronco Plastics http://www.ronco-plastics.com (no relation to the VegOMatic Ronco) They make top quality rotomolded tanks for a very reasonable price and have 400+ shapes and sizes, over 100 of which are non-rectangular...Ed can give you mold # that fits. And they install fittings in the sizes and locations specified by th customer when they make the tank...so your new plumbing will be "plug and play."

The online chandlery here is now a Ronco dealer and has great pricing.

p.s. You do NOT want a bladder!
