Electronic thermostat for fridge

Yuk!

AB thermostats have resistors in them that are matched to the size of the evaporator and determine the speed of the compressor

That makes no sense. Somebody got their engineering wrong.

From what I've read they do have a resistor that controls the compressor speed. The thermostat part number indicates the resistor value. A part number ending in R620 will measure 620 ohms when closed. Easily duplicated if a digital thermostat was to be used.
