electronic temp control refrigarator

Good morning from the meditterenean.

I have a fridge with a cold plate .The electronic control does not work anymore so we
installed a normal mechanical thermostat.Now he keeps on freezing even in the lowest temp
I cannot find the manufacturer on the old electronic control.
Would do Ido??

At the very least, run the fridge an hour,then off an hour or two.
