Can a lead keel be affected by electrolysis? Over the last 2 or 3 seasons my 272 keel has had a patch of hard creamy-yellowish gunk develop towards the front of each wing. I have now ground it off, filled the indents where it manifested with epoxy and painted over the whole keel with epoxy liquid. It looks fine. BUT I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR OPINIONS ABOUT THE ORIGIN OF THE GUNK. I have had problems with premature loss of anodes on my prop shaft.

Samphire, In short yes. You may need to use a pre etch compound before using epoxy for it to stick. Interlux sells it. Also make sure your electrical system is grounded corectly as stray current may boil the paint off the lead. Also make sure you or your dock neighbors are not allowing for their shore power line to sit in the water. Another source of stray current. Best of luck Dave
