Beneteau First 305 Nyack, NY
Last year I purchased a 1986 Beneteau First 305 from the widow of the unfortunate deceased previous owner. This is also my first boat so I am a bit ignorant. You can imagine the learning curve I have. Turns out he used the boat for racing and stripped it of everything. I am slowly putting the pieces back together (I am definately more of a cruiser) and I am trying to reinstall the oven. I know this may sound like a stupid question but I have no idea what type of fuel or fuel container I need. The stove is a Electrolux however I cannot find any info from them. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

The fittings seem to fit for propane gas. I would just like some confirmation before I move forward and start hooking things up.

Thank you,
Bill A

Yes it should be propane. Be careful as proper propane install is critical. There is likely a propane locker in the back of the cockpit, and there needs to be an electronic shut off. Check out some of Don Casey's books on upgrading and maintenance. This is a good job to have done by a professional due to safety concerns. Propane is the best fuel if you plan on cruising but has it's hazards and must be respected. the issue is that it tends to sink into the lowest spots and that will be the bilge and below decks. If there is a leak it can quickly turn your boat into a bomb. Don't want to scare you but this is of real concern.
