The electrical cables for my outboard right now pass through the hull via a filmsy black rubber "boot" that is only held on by 2 screws (well now one) no sealant nothing to actually keep any water out. Before the boat goes in the water in 2 weeks I'd like to put in a proper electrical thu-hull, but I have no idea what that is... can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks, Jeremy

check with a commercial electric supplier in your area. You could Boat-Life caulk the one you have now.

An alternative....

When I acquired my 27 the OB wiring was run through the same sort of arrangement. When I went to take it off the boat for the winter I had to crawl into the cockpit locker to undo the wiring splice so I could pull the motor off the boat. I solved the problem the next spring by installing a trolling motor socket in the motor well and its plug on the OB wire. Buy the heavy duty version kit and you should be OK. An electric trailer winch plug/socket would also work.

Cable Clam

Use a Cable Clam. You can get them from West Marine. I used one on a deck feed thru for several years and it never leaked. You have to make a hole in the rubber part for the cable and this is best done by putting the rubber part in the freezer for an hour or two then drilling the hole with the right sized drill. The rubber is tapered and the narrow end of the taper needs to go into the cable clam base. The cover compresses the sealing rubber into the tapered base. Simple and easy. If you don't have a raw end on the cable, drill the hole then slit the rubber with a razor blade so that it can be put on the cable in the middle. PS I don't own stock in the company!
