you can also take an 8 week course in marine electrics 101 at your local US Power Squadron for about $75.00. for that, you get 8 weeks of class, hands - on project discussions and advice, and a good textbook . if you pass the final exam, youll get a discount on your boat insurance too.

m'y last class of students saved hundreds of dollars doing simple 12v electric repairs themselves during the course. the star was a 65 year old widow who replaced all the beat up non functional berth lights in her boat, installed a new fan, and redid all her old 20 year old 12v wire connections, much to the amazement of the guys on her dock.
