hi there!!!
I have an intermittent electrical problem when starting the engine!!! sometimes it started very good for a few weeks and out of the blue ,one day,it doesn't!!!!I checked all electrical connections and and the starter itself and couldn't find anything wrong !!!! any ideas!!!!!

There are several post on this subject on the Big Boats Forum. A friend had this problem on his 40.5 for over a year and it was resolved 100% when we replaced the wires from the switch to the motor with heavier wire.

You need to give a better description of what is or isn't happening. Does the engine crank with no start or does it fail to crank? ...any sounds associated? If you have a Yanmar there is a lot of stuff in the archives about high starter relay resistance problem and how to fix it.

Starter control wire

The number of connections in the starter solenoid control (from the ign switch) from bat and back to th bat is 14. 14 connections in one circuit tends to subject you to connection problems.
The final solution is to replace the ignition to starter solenoid wire with one wire
Alternately you can take the connectors apart and solder the wires (my solution) together. If you go the later route be sure you us a western union wire splice

Why hunter does it this way is unknown but it does seem to be a recurring problem

I have same boat -- I HAD the same problem. After a lot of research on this site I installed a relay so that the starter does not rely on such long and complex wiring runs to deliver higher voltages to teh starter solenoid. You didn't give a lot of details and you may want to do some troubleshooting first, but many of us had the same type of problem which is best (IMHO) solved with a relay. If happens again, try using a remote starter switch or some other mechanism to connect the terminals AT the solenoid. if this is the problem, the engine will start easily.
