I have a catalina 22 and have been working on the running lights. The stern and the mast work fine but the bow light has no ground just power. I can run a wire to the neg battery and it works but it seems that somewhere between where the wire goes into the deck and where it comes out must have a break. Where else can I find a gorund other than the battery towards the front of the boat would be nice. thx for your help Rudy.

Run new wire

Hi Rudy you do not indicate the age of your boat but it sounds like your Ground rusted out if this is the case then your hot is not far behind. I would run two new marine grade wires and fix it once. Herb

grounds

on my Catalina 28 the electrical diagram shows the nav lights grounds connected to the grounds on the cabin lights then to the ground bus bar, find a electrical diagram for the 22's.

Ground it

Rudy The Catalinas, for some bizarre reason, ran wiring in older boats in the deck. Just abandon what "may be there," and run new wire. You do need a ground or elese it won't work, as you've found out. You should be able to tuck the new wire under the deck behind the teak edge. Stu

C-22 Bow light ground

If you have a pre 1985 boat, there is also a wiring diagram for your boat at the same place as for an 85 and older boat. See the link below and then scroll nearly all the way down to the bottom. If you have a pre 85 boat, the bow light ground connects onto your mast light ground, which then connects to the port cabin light ground and then goes back to the battery as one wire. The second ground at the battery is for the starboard cabin light and the stern light. Since your mast light works, I think the problem is somewhere between the bow and the mast light wiring. But big deal, as you will still need to run a new wire anyway.
