My new to me Catalina 30 with a Universal 21HP has a constant draw on the start battery even when the ignition is off and all switches are in the off position. Any ideas on what it could be. Does the engine or engine panel always have a draw? Also, after the engine heats up to its normal temp and operates for awhile when you slow to under 2000RPM the oil alarm goes off. This only occurs when the engine is warm. Fluids are up and it does not occur at intial start up.

Stereo radio?

If you have a stereo on board maybe PO hooked the memory wire directly to the battery. this is a wire that maintains the memory for your presets on the stereo, the oil alarm problem could be a bad oil pressure switch or a low oil pressure condition, I would check the oil pressure with a mechanial gauge

How much..

is it drawing? Mine always draws about .1 AMP and I attribute that to the batttery monitor which gets its power from the starter battery. Also do you happen to have an inverter? It will draw about .7 AMP if its on even if nothing is connected to it, but they are usually connected to the house batteries.

Change you oil pressure sending unit

This could be the cause of both problems. It's a cheap fix that's worth a try.

crazy electrical loss

I have a Catalina 36 with a Universal 25 with an inverter. I was on a weekend cruise and did a lot of motoring and the batterys went dead. The batterys charge up while connected to shore power. I suspect the alternator may be malfuctioning. How can I test the alternator to see if it is working?
