removehtml]Has anyone mounted an electric windlass of a 34 footer? If so, what kind ( vertical or horizontal) and how did you handle the installation noting especially the shallow 9" depth of the anchor locker and the placement of the windlass? After my experience last year at this time, weighing the anchor with 20 knot winds and singlehanded, I kinda thunk that a windlass would be a good idea. Thank you. I want to install a windlass on an S37, which I believe has exactly the same anchor locker configuration as your 34. Have no info for you, but would like to know what you decide on and how it works out.

windlass

I have found a lot of info on sailboaterowners re windlass install--mostly on Hunters. It is not a pretty picture. Try there also. I was just kinda hoping that somebody might offer a simple way to proceed. Problem is the locker's depth and just whether an alteration to the locker cover ( strengthening) might be a way to go. Otherwise, it's back to engineering the whole darn thing. Hope springs eternal in the minds of pennywise sailboaters. John

Windlass or??

John; Have you ever tried an anchor ball??....I grew up in the Tampa Bay area and found them to be very useful when no windlass was available. The local West Marine store can help you or try Johnson Sails/Hardware over on Ulmerton. The system is very simple...1 round orange ball....2-3 feet of line...1 s/s bail which goes onto your anchor line.Start the boat, motor off at 45 degree angle and BAM! ...anchor will pop up into the bail_____ 98% of the time.I have one and in high winds/single handing it is a back saver. Hope this is a help? Cheers- CaptHawk RogueWave S-34

Anchor Windlass

I put an electric windlass in the hatch of my S37 ran a pipe to the front locker below the vbirth for the chain and presto life on the hook was a whole lot easier. Spent 2 years crusing in the Carabbean. If you want some details I can get you some pic's but you will have to wait until the winter has passed & I can get back aboard Lady Simcoe. Gord Z

Gord did you

I think I basically understand how you did this. There is a pretty good amount of room under the V berth. Did you mount the windlass on the floor of the anchor locker, or somewhere else in there. Did you reinforce the mounting area. Inquisitive minds want to know all the details. And if you can some pics would certainly be nice. This is certainly on my to do list, hopefully this spring.

windlass

Gord Z Certainly would appreciate you experience, especially pictorially. I have seen two such installations BUT not on a Seidelmann. When is winter over in Canada--sometime in August, eh? Thank you for your response. John S/V Second Love
