Has anyone installed an electric windlass on a Legend 45? Horizontal or vertical? Is it installed in the anchor locker where the manual windlass was, or aft of the anchor well? How did you reinforce? Appreciate your advice.

I put in a horizontal

I basically installed it a bit aft of where the old manual was (still inside the locker), and cut a new hawsepipe hole so that the chain and rode would drop directly into the deepest part of the anchor well. Even so, I had to angle the bottom of the hawsepipe aft, and the chain still piles up under the pipe to the point where it can easily ride up the pipe and jam the windlass. A long dowel or an extra person helps a lot with this problem. I have been unable to solve it any other way due to the inadequate depth of the locker. The windlass is slightly elevated on a 1" thick marine ply (glassed) platform to provide a fair lead to the anchor roller, and thrubolted to the decking - so far, no problems, but I would probably do it differently and simply build up the decking more. Hope this helps - MC
