Expensive
Morning Kit:There was a recent article in a sailing magazine concerning electric powered catamarans. I wish I could think of the magazine but it escapes me. I paid little more than curious attention to it due to the expense. The up side of the article was that it is efficient, quiet, and for all practical purposes, fairly trouble free. The down side was that it is extremely expensive at the present time as it is new technology. There is also a need for a complex regulatory system in addition to numerous batteries. What you lose in diesel engine weight and space, you would gain a lot more weight and space usage in batteries. It would also not be practical for extended use under power such is the inland waterways.I'm afraid that unless you have an unlimited budget, you would be better off rebuilding. The cost of the conversion would probably be the same as the approximate value of your boat. If I can find the article or more information, I'll edit it into this post.Found their web site. It's about the same boat, just not written up like it was in the magazine. Remember when you read this thing that these folks are trying to sell the system. The site is not coming through.
