I just purchased an O'Day Javelin and am wondering if anyone has tried an electric outboard for motoring. I just need to be able to maneuver around all the boats moored in the harbor. Thanks.
I have a 54 pound thrust on my Oday daysailer and it moves it at about 3 knots, enough to get me in and out of the marina area. I placed the battery up front under the cuddy and spliced booser cable wire onto the leads. This moves the weight further forward for better trim. I ran the wires behind the seat and out of sight.
i use a '34' lb minn kota on my javelin, and am placing the battery forward under the deck and running wires aft to a plug for the motor. i have a 6" inspection port on the seat aft to reach that area. have used the minn kots to move my mirage 236 around the docks, just doesn't work well in wind and tides.
