Electric motor powered keel winch

I wonder if anyone has modified the keel winch to install an electric motor to raise and lower the keel. Sure would be nice to be able to raise and lower the keel from the cockpit without having to go down into the cabin leaving the tiller un-tended when you are sailing alone. I think that a starter motor from a Toyota or similar vehicle would do the job very easily and with limit switches should be trouble free. Anyone had experience with something like this?

I think it's a great idea. It would have to have a manual option too. I'll be thinking about it and let you know what if anything comes to mind. Vernon

Don't forget about locking the keel in place.

Not doing this will cause additional wear on the keel hinge.

Bob; Allow me to introduce you to Murphy. He has a law that you should know about that can be summed up with K.I.S.S.
