Electric heater / engine water circulation

.First post - thanks for viewing. I have a C & C Landfall 39 and I did notice till recently that the outer metal skin and the bottom of the electricc heater are badly rusted.There are two flexible rubber hoses running from the top of the engine to the heater and back.

In two years of Southern and Lake Ont cruising I never used the heater and am considering replacing this one with a much smaller htr and not connecting it to the engine as it is now.
Rather I'll connect it to hot and cold water system.

Will this compromise the engine in any way - Yanmar 44--- a great engine

The heater should be connected to the boats water system already. The engine heat exchange is just an option to get hot water when off shore power. It will not hurt the engine at all to remove this set up. You can either just connect the hose together or better yet remove and plug the fittings on the engine.

Thanks Capt. I was leaning that way but confirmation removes any doubts I had _-_-_-_-
Off with the hoses.!
