Any thoughts why elec windlass works both up & down only 1 link at a time

Perhaps a few more details to give us a fighting chance here.

Does the motor continue to grind after the single link has passed or does it go dead ?

Does the breaker trip ?

What is your process to get the next link to move up ?

Your answers will generate a few more questions but I think it's solvable.

Problem was a dead battery dedicated to the windlass. New battery and now works.
