I just bought a Nissan 8 hp 4 stroke with electric start. I am going to take the motor off the boat when it is not in use. I was thinking of using a heavy duty trolling motor plug mounted in the motor well to make a quick disconnect for the battery cables that run to the motor. Is this a good idea? The plug I am considering is a Marineco that handles 8 gauge wire, but it does not say anything about amperage limits. If this is not a good idea, does anyone have any alternative suggestions? Thanks.

#8 AWG Copper wire is rated @ 65 Amps, which should be more than adequate for starting a small outboard. Designed to accept #8 wire, the Marinco Trolling Plug Assembly should be OK.
