My SL windlass on my '98 H376 was straining last week. I thought I'd end up hauling up the chain hand. It kept popping the breakers and would only bring in 4-5' at a time. I ASSUMED the motor was toast.
Well this weekend I got the manual out at started to dismantle the windlass looking for the problem. Bottom line is the inside of the windlass was full of sand and crud mixed up with the grease. A thorough cleaning, new lube and its running like new.
It's amazing the difference a little maintenance makes isn't it?
