Greetings. We double hand on my Hunter 25.5 and due to my first mates fear of enclosed spaces the quarter berth is used exclusively for storage. I imagine that there are others with similar situations. My question is what ways have you devised to efficiently use the space for storage? I have thought of installing Tupperware plastic drawers back there. Does anyone else have any good solutions or good ideas? Thanks

Tupperware/Rubbermaid

Tupperware and Rubbermaid both make plastic bins with lids that work well in this situation. I bought several different sizes of Rubbermaid bins and use them throughout the boat- They keep things from 'jumping' off of shelves or out of lockers, and they keep towels/sheets dry when stored, they keep canned food from rolling around in the under-berth storage, they keep snorkeling gear from rolling out of the lazarette and into the bilge, etc... There are enough different sizes available to suit just about any storage area on the boat. I primarily use the 18"x24"x6" bins with the lids that allow stacking. I can fit six of these (in 2 stacks) in the quarterberth, or 1 each under the overhangs for the main cabin berths. I use smaller bins in the under-berth storage areas to keep food and other supplies dry, and larger ones in the lazarette to keep things organized. If I need to carry lots of food or beverages, I've found that I can fit 2 56-Quart coolers in the quarterberth instead of the rubbermaid bins. These can also be used for dry storage... Finally, you can always store things that don't get used frequently in the quarterberth- I store my spare jib under there most of the time. Good luck- The sky and your imagination are the limit for storage solutions. --Jon Bastien H25 'Adagio'

This might help

I use a couple of bins and a plastic laundry basket, with pieces of light line tied to the handles. They can be stuffed as far back in the berth as I want, and are retrieved by pulling on the appropriate line. Peter H23 "Raven"

The ultimate storage space!

This is the best spot on the boat. Large Rubbermaid containers filled with pots and pans, cookware, baggies, foil, paper/plastic plates and utensils, potholders, dishtowels, staples, etc. and then umbrella folding canvas chairs/umbrellas/water toys, slid down the side for quick dock use, gotta have it quick nylon bag with tools and etc. to the front. THE GOODIE BIRTH. Anything you need to access quickly is there! Ultimately the best spot for tons of stuff!
