Hello, I have a 1997 hunter 430 with a grunnert (sp) system. I dont have my manuals with me so I am not sure of the specifics. When I run the system the freezer will continue to drop in temperature but the refrigerator compartment will drop to the low 40 degree area and then rise back up to over 50 degrees while the system continues to run. When the freezer gets down to temperature if I leave the system on it will cycle on and off, sometimes every few seconds. On purchase a refrigeration service tech came out and we learned that the system will delay this on/off problem if both the fride and freezer are run at the same time but it still occurs after a few hours. I assume, perhaps in error, that the on and off is hard on the system so I tend to regulate temperature manually rather then with the thermostat but I would like to be able to just get the system cold and leave it on to self regulate by temperature. any suggestions?

Sounds like two seperate problems.

I don’t know what the ( sp ) stands for, is it a 110 volt shore power or a 12 volt belt driven model? Does the refrigerator plate have frost on it or just cold condensation? Is there a thermostat in each box? Has any one adjusted the low pressure switch and is there a name on the switch cover? The box temperatures can be controlled two separate ways: •A thermostat in each box and a low pressure switch to protect the compressor from too low a pressure. •A single thermostat in the freezer and a low suction pressure switch to stop the compressor when the freezer is cold enough.

Correction

Correction to eariler post.A single thermostat in the refrigerator and a low pressure switch to stop the compressor when the freezer is cold enough.

(sp)is a grammatical indication that I am not sure of the correct spelling of the preceding word. there is a temperature control nob in both boxes. both boxes in the freezer develope frost. the plate in the fridge is the shelf itself and it developes frost on the bottom not the top. I dont know if the switch has been adjusted.

Troubleshooting two box system

I believe we are looking for two separate problems and you have to be my eyes and hands to find and correct them. So I need all of the questions asked answered. Problem 1. Refrigerator does not reach desired temperature and temperature rises too quickly. Is it a control problem with expansion valve or the thermostat/solenoid? Or has the holding plate lost most of its solution. The top of the plate does not need to frost up but there should be frost on the plate sides. The amount of liquid in the plate can be seen by the frost line when the plate is frozen. Advise where the frost line is when the refrigerator plate is frozen. Problem 2. With a two thermostat system the low pressure switch may cut out when the freezer thermostat is set too low. There are two adjustments on low pressure switches and there are different types of these switches. It sounds like the differential setting on this switch is set too low and that is why it is cycling off and on. If you will describe this pressure switch or send me a picture of it I can tell you how to adjust it.
