There was an "eduction" question posted on SBO in late 2013 that I could not locate. It was looking for educational opportunities that did not cost a fortune and take a whole day or weekend to attend. Okay, here goes :
Maybe a dozen of us here on the SBO forum are in a 733-member club, Singles on Sailboats. “SOS” for short. Most members are around the Chesapeake Bay, but many are from PA, NJ, VA and other parts of the U.S.A..
On March 15th we have our annual “Spring Training” event, which always draws 300-plus attendees. It is like going back to high school, with FOUR periods in the day, with NINE subjects per period to choose from, so 36 subjects. The registration started on Jan 1st for members, Jan 15th for non-members. I apologize for not doing this post back then. I believe that if a class is filled, it is taken off of the schedule, or, at the least, if you try to sign up for it, you’ll get a “full” notice. Some of the classes are taught by knowledgeable members, while other classes are taught by local (some professional) people who work in their area of expertise.
A continental breakfast and lunch and door prizes from local merchants make your $75.oo price more reasonable. See “ SinglesonSailboats.org “, click on the menu button “Spring Training” for details and registration.
Last year we outgrew the 300-person limitation of a local high school, so this year it is at Anne Arundel Community College, located in the NE area of Rte 50 and Rte 2, just outside of Annapolis, Maryland. SOS is a IRS non-profit group, with all work done by the volunteer efforts of it’s members.
