Does any sailor have experience with the east-side of Lake Marion SC?

I have a P-31 and draw 5.5 feet. Are there marinas on the east side and can you navigate via the locks, and Lake Moultrie, down the Cooper River to Charleston?

Is the I-95 bridge over Lake Marion high enough to sail under with a P-31?

Can anyone recommend a marina on Marion?

Thanks for the replies, in advance.

I've never sailed on Lake Marion, but I've been on a stink boat there. LOTS of stumps and very shallow lake. Have you been there before? Lake Marion is not promoted as a sailing lake. In fact, there are "channel markers" down the middle of it for "safe passage." I put both of those in quotes because the channel is a joke. I have seen large stumps sticking up inside the marked passage. I was glad it wasn't my boat we were on and very glad to be gone. Lake Marion is famous for its fishing. I've seen some small sailboats in coves but not on the big water. When I say small, I mean Sunfish.

Apparently it's a great trip through the locks to Charleston. I don't think I'd attempt it in my H23 that only draws 2'3", though. As far as I can tell, it's a powerboat trip.

I hope someone else has better news for you. I really, really do.

Come to Wateree Lake. It's narrow but very pretty. God lives there. Check out the album pictures in my profile.

You can't bass fish from a sailboat.
All kidding aside that is what this lake is famous for. I believe it is a man made lake, Kermit is right, the place is stump heaven.

I spent a month fishing here in 1980. There were gators here big as my canoe
