East Coast Cell Phone Coverage - Who's Best?

2 years ago when I last made a trip from New York to Key Largo, we had cell phone service with Cingular. Their coverage was good, although there were some area where only analog coverage was available. Am travelling south again this winter and need to decided which cell phone service to go with - who's got the best coverage and plan out there (which would include no roaming fees)?

What about Nextel direct connect, thats included in the monthly cost, and there are no minutes involved

Verizon

We use Nextel at my place of work. Many complaints from those who use it. May just be the phones we use, but I have spoken to others who also have problems with Nextel.I use to have Sprint, but changed to Verizon due to coverage area. Go to the various company web sites and explore the map coverage.

Cingular

Verizon was OK on the boat, but my friend did ok with cingular too. I am now switching to cingular, because verizon does not work at my home, my job, or the three mile strip between the two.
