What is a goose neck strap? I know what a goose neck on a bicycle is,
but I can think of anything that looks like a goose neck on a sailboat.
Is this an English term??

Hi All,

This might be a bit of a stupid question but I am confused.

Is this the right place to put the goose neck strap? I ask since I took the whole of the boom and mast apart and I can not find any other place to put it and were it is at the moment use to have a split pin in place so I am not sure if I lost some part.

Advice would be greatly appreciated.

Taking advantage, thanks for the comments on the sailing, we are now off and in Ramsgate (south east conner of britain), waiting to cross the channel to France then back into the uk to get to cross down into Spain from the Scilly Isles.

Regards

Roger

It's a block and tackle arrangement called a Cunningham.
It's used to tension the mainsail luff, and makes the mainsail flatter.
The two hooks are for reefing, and they fit the reefing cringles (eyes) in
the mainsail luff - haul up the main, tension the cunningham.

A minor irritation I have with the Vega setup is that the pin through the
gooseneck rotates, so the cords in the cunningham twist.

Your bimini. I haven't seen one mounted like that before. Is that the standard way they came on vegas? Any pics of it up?Roy

We moved out tank out of the bilge and into the starboard lazerette. We stored extra chain and dock lines in the space, topped off with some beer and wine for good measure.

Roy,

It is a Dutch design, quite a nice arrangement and only takes 10 min to set it up from nothing, less to put it down.

Please find a couple of pictures.

Have you got the design for this cockpit cover (bimini)? Do you know where it can be purchased from. I am in Scotland.

Looks fine to me. The bottom end of the arrangement is attached to the plate
at the foot of the mast.

Hi David

These are cockpit tents with a frame, not really a Bimini. Any decent sailmaker/canvas maker will be able to make them but they aint cheap!!!

Cheers

Roger,
That's the nicest cockpit enclosure I've seen for a Vega. I like the way it uses the cockpit combing for a surround, rather than the lifelines and pushpit.

I think I'll add this one to my future projects list. If you have any more pictures .....!

Dan, yes I still have it. I ordered the plug from Steve in England years ago and I don't remember how much I paid. Let me have your address and I send it over to you.
